Not that long actually. I finished a four-year degree in physics last summer and started working at my current job as a PhD student in October 2019, so overall for about 5/6 months. I did complete a couple of research internships in science during my physics degree though so you could add another 3 months on top of that.
I finished my 4 year degree in Physics in the summer of 2017, and then took a year off to do a ski season and go travelling around South America. I’ve been in my current role as PhD student since September 2019 – so I would say 5 and a half years in total with a little break in between!
I started my undergraduate Masters degree in physics in 2001 and haven’t really stopped since then. I haven’t taken any career breaks, so 2020 will be my 19th year as a physicist!

I’m also quite fresh out of university, but I did research placements, a year in a research group, and have been in industry for almost a year now.

I finished my four year degree in 2018 and I started my PhD almost straight away so I have been doing my PhD for two and a half years.
